Adult Study Group
We will have the benefit Sunday November 10 (our only session in
November) of Patrick Lynam's introduction of the book Revelations: Visions, Prophecy & Politics in the Book of Revelation by Elaine Pagels. Revelations is the last and most controversial book of the New Testament. The controversy is not new, and many of the bishops at the Council of Nicea opposed including Revelations in the canon.
Talk, Friends in the Amazon
Campbell Plowden of State College Friends Meeting will be speaking, and afterwards have many crafts from indigenous people of the Amazon for sale:
Thanksgiving Worship & Potluck
We will have Thanksgiving Day activities at FMW on November 28 for those who are in town and would like to join! You are welcome to come yourself, or bring friends and family members with you. This is simply a "come as you are" Thanksgiving Day celebration. Based on last year's it was quite a thing to behold --- bring your own Spirit and see what you want to make of it!
Meeting for Worship on Thursday November 28 will be held in the Parlor at Noon.
Workshop on Taking Minutes
Come to the North Room for a workshop on that most useful of Quaker practices--the taking of minutes. Deborah Haines of Alexandria Friends Meeting, who has served as Recording Clerk for Baltimore Yearly Meeting, will lead us through the basics and quirks of Quaker note-taking, which blends the very practical with the very spiritual. This workshop will be immediately useful to any committee on which you serve, but you may well find that it serves you in any number of other groups in which you may participate, now and in the future. All are welcome.
Spiritual Journeys
Everyone is warmly invited to participate in gatherings to share spiritual journeys! At each gathering, two members of our community will share the story of their own spiritual journeys and then the rest of us attending will be able to reflect on those journeys and generally get to know each other better. There will be time for silence and probably some laughs – but mostly just a time of fellowship for those who can join in.
Inquirer's Class
Want to know more about the faith and practice of the Religious Society of Friends? Come to the Inquirer’s Class on Oct. 15, 22, 29 and Nov. 5 at 7:00 pm. This is a kind of Quaker 101, and is open to all, whether you’ve been attending for a few weeks or a few decades. For more information, contact Michael Cronin at mcronin943@gmail.com
