Adult Study Group--When Bad Things Happen to Good People
Once again, Patrick will bring our attention to
an important piece.-- here is his description:
"I am working on Howard Kushner’s book When Bad Things
Happen to Good People, which is based partially on the Book of Job.
Kushner was a rabbi in a large congregation. He knew first-hand about
family disasters such as: death, disease, job loss, divorce. Kushner’s
aim is to avoid being like “Job’s counselors” by giving thoughtless

hear from Rob Callard, who will share his own Christmas
Story, and I will share some thoughts/peices about Quakers and
Christmas.

Patrick Lynam will present again the Elaine Pagel's book about the Book of Revelations. All are welcome.

We will have the benefit Sunday November 10 (our only session in
November) of Patrick Lynam's introduction of the book Revelations: Visions, Prophecy & Politics in the Book of Revelation by Elaine Pagels. Revelations is the last and most controversial book of the New Testament. The controversy is not new, and many of the bishops at the Council of Nicea opposed including Revelations in the canon.

Workshop on Taking Minutes
Come to the North Room for a workshop on that most useful of Quaker practices--the taking of minutes. Deborah Haines of Alexandria Friends Meeting, who has served as Recording Clerk for Baltimore Yearly Meeting, will lead us through the basics and quirks of Quaker note-taking, which blends the very practical with the very spiritual. This workshop will be immediately useful to any committee on which you serve, but you may well find that it serves you in any number of other groups in which you may participate, now and in the future. All are welcome.

Young Adult Friendsare meeting on Sunday, Oct. 20 at noon in the North Room to watch “Trying is Good,” a show by stand-up comedian and Quaker admirer Josie Long, filmed live in 2008. Part of her standup recounts the story of Edward Hicks and the famous Friendly painting, The Peaceable Kingdom.

On Sunday, October 13, Blair Forlaw will share her
observations and reflections from a recent six-week journey
to Rwanda. While there, she attended the Gasharu
Friends Church, volunteered for the African Great Lakes
Initiative’s Children’s Peace Library in Kigali, and witnessed the
Spirit manifest in many amazing efforts to bring about
reconciliation and peace. She will illuminate several differences
between Friends Meeting of Washington and the Evangelical Friends
