WIN Ward 3 Affordable Housing Rally, on Zoom, Sunday, January 23, 3:00 pm
Early in the 20th century, thriving African American communities–homes, schools, churches–west of Rock Creek were systematically displaced to make way for “whites only” housing developments, schools and parkland.  Washington Interfaith Network (WIN) is campaigning to press that DC’s wealthiest, and whitest Ward (Ward 3) provide its fair share of affordable housing.  (Lower income workers employed in Ward 3 should be able to live there!)  This campaign is very much in alignment with FMW’s commitment to work to end systemic racism, and since many FMW members/attenders are Ward 3 residents, this is an opportunity to work for justice in our own backyard.  We have committed to bring at least 20 FMW folks to this important meeting. (WIN’s goal is 300.)  For more info, contact Elaine Wilson (ElaineSWils@gmail.com) or Beth Cogswell (BethCogswell8@gmail.com, WIN Core Group.  InfoGraphicRegister here

The Friendly Quaker Film Club will kick off in January 26, 6:00 - 8:00 pm
We will watch a movie a month through the lens of Quaker ethics and values and then meet for a Friendly discussion using a query based framework.  For now, given the Covid surge, Friends can watch the movie on their own or in their Pod….then we will meet to discuss it via Zoom.  Our first selection is the much loved classic “The Wizard of Oz”  For details contact Bill Parker earnestlyeston@gmail.com, (301) 221-4539   Join on ZoomBy phone dial: (301) 715-8592 and enter Meeting ID: 8518 6585 765# on prompt.

Polar Plunge to raise $$ for Climate and Social Justice!  Register now and join the team!
The Quaking Quakers Polar Plunge team is forming!  We will be plunging on Saturday, February 12!  Join us to raise funds for Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) and FMW’s social justice programs.
Last year we raised nearly $16,000!  Can we raise more in 2022?  Hot chocolate, fun, and swag are perks of being part of the team!  ∾  This year the plan/hope is to plunge into the Potomac River at Washington Harbor.  But we are flexible with how our team might plunge for the safety of all participants.   Sign up here and join the team.  For more info on how to join, fundraise or contribute, contact Elaine Wilson: elaineswils@gmail.com or (734) 276-2191.
