Help Get Out The Vote! Reclaim Our Vote needs volunteers to make phone calls and/or send postcards. We are reaching out to minority voters in eight states with long histories of voter suppression, to encourage voter registration and turnout--one important way to fight systemic racism. * We’ve sent over 3000 postcards so far and another list--voters purged from the lists--is on it has way. We have said that FMW will try to send out another 1,000. Can we do it?? * Soon we will turn our attention to making phone calls. One friend says that this is different from any phone-banking she has ever been part of: Many people she called expressed tremendous gratitude that she had reached out. Join with Friends across Baltimore Yearly Meeting for a weekend retreat that offers time for reflection and renewal, quiet and spiritual friendship, chanting and celebration. SATURDAY - “Grace-filled to the End” Workshop by BYM End of Life Working Group, 9/19 10:00 a.m.
The first in a series of online workshops sponsored by Baltimore Yearly Meeting’s End of Life Working Group, “Grace-filled to the End” will be held on Saturday, September 19, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Subsequent programs on issues of living and dying well as Friends will be held approximately every 2 months. Topics will include advanced planning, advanced medical directives and what happens if there is no planning; the special challenges of dementia care; burial practices, funerals and memorial services; support committees in our Meetings; the role of caregivers; grief work; spiritual journeys in illness and decline; and special considerations in the time of the pandemic. In this time when the world’s desperate needs demand our attention and energy, a deeper understanding of our own strengths, and an appreciation of others' gifts, create the possibility of grounded, centered action.
This workshop will use storytelling, poetry, video, journaling and small-group discussion to explore our gifts and help us more consciously create the beloved community--in our families, communities and the world. FCNL Annual Meeting and Quaker Public Policy Institute to focus on Anti-Racism, Nov 14-17
(Via Zoom) In concert with the upswell of protests and calls for justice across the country this year, antiracism will be a major focus of FCNL’s Annual Meeting and lobbying effort this November. Quakers will gather (virtually) to conduct worshipful business and lobby for the Justice in Policing Act (H.R. 7120/S.3912).
